Introduction-
Vishal Kotian was born on 13 February 1985 into a poor family in Dagdi Chawl, Mumbai, Maharashtra.
He grew up in an overcrowded chawl in Mumbai.
Vishal’s father hails from Karnataka whereas his mother hailed from Punjab and theirs was a love marriage.
His father used to work as a mechanic.
Struggling from poverty-
In his childhood, Vishal and his family struggled severely from poverty.
They were so poor that they were able to afford only one meal per day.
Vishal’s mother used to purchase cheap broken rice from the ration store and used to feed this to him and his father and she used to consume just rice porridge (the left out water after cooking rice).
His neighbour, Tara, was kind enough to sometimes feed Vishal.
As a child he liked sweets but as his family couldn’t afford them, he used to have sweets only once per year when his neighbours shared sweets with him during Diwali.
Inspired to become actor-
Since his childhood, Vishal has been a big fan of Amitabh Bachchan.
At 6, he decided to grow up to become an actor after getting inspired by watching Deewaar, an Amitabh Bachchan’s movie.
Many odd jobs-
As a child, Vishal did many odd jobs for survival like working as a housekeeper in a hotel, washing vehicles, selling cinema tickets in black, working as a milkman and paperboy.
While working in a hotel, he used to overeat lunch in the hotel so that he wouldn’t feel hungry after returning home and his parents could have a little more food for themselves.
In his eighth grade, Vishal also worked as a tutor, tutoring children.
Losing his mother-
When Vishal was around 15, his mother started suffering from bone cancer.
He was moved by the sufferings of his mother.
Vishal’s mother suffered from pain and as a result, she wasn’t able to sleep flat on her back, so she used to sleep upright and sometimes, droop.
He took great care of her mother and he took the responsibility of bathing, dressing and feeding her.
Unfortunately, Vishal lost her mother after nine months and at that time, he was 15.
Schooling-
Vishal did his schooling from Fatima High School, Mumbai and Don Bosco High School, Matunga.
He completed his schooling in 1997.
While studying in school, Vishal couldn’t afford shoe polish, so he used to rub his hands on the scalp of his schoolmates who used to apply hair oil and then, rub his shoes with that oil.
He used to iron his school uniform by placing it under his bed.
Vishal’s school life wasn’t easy, as he was a son of a mechanic, he was taunted for studying in an English medium school and was taunted that he too would grow up to become a mechanic like his father.
College education-
After completing his schooling, Vishal studied at SVKM’s Narsee Monjee College of Commerce and Economics, Mumbai.
Here, he studied with the help of a scholarship.
Vishal became an actor and started earning decently while he was still a college student but as he knew the value of education, he didn’t drop out from college to focus on his acting career.
Later, he did post-graduation in MBA in Finance.
His career-
At 17, Vishal won the Gladrags Manhunt and Megamodel Contest.
Then, he became a model and worked in a few advertisements.
Later, Vishal worked on many music videos with Daler Mehndi and Falguni Pathak.
TV serials-
At 18, Vishal started acting in television serials.
He acted in many television serials like Dil Vil Pyar Vyar (his first television show), Family No.1, Baap Bole toh Aap, Zindagi Milke Bitayenge, Mahabharat, etc.
Vishal became popular with his first television show itself and became even more popular with Har Mushkil Ka Hal Akbar Birbal TV serial.
He played the role of Lord Hanuman in Mahabharat and the role of Ravana in Vighnaharta Ganesha.
Vishal also acted in films like The Deadly Disciple (2001) and Don Muthu Swami (2008).
He has also been a host of the Indian Premier League.
In 2014, Vishal participated in the Season 1 of Box Cricket League in the team of Delhi Dragons.
He is working with many OTT platforms like Netflix, Amazon Prime Video and ALTBalaji.
Vishal also endorsed many brands like Superdry, adidas Originals, etc.
He participated in Bigg Boss (Hindi season 15) but got evicted.
Vishal lives in Mumbai.
