Inspiring Biography of Alakh Pandey (Physics Wallah)

Alakh Pandey is one of the most famous online educators of India.

He teaches millions of students through his YouTube channels.

Alakh Pandey became famous for teaching physics through his Physics Wallah – Alakh Pandey YouTube channel.

Introduction-

Alakh Pandey was born in Prayagraj (Allahabad), Uttar Pradesh and grew up here.

He did his schooling in the ICSE board from Bishop Johnson School and College, Allahabad.

Later, Alakh Pandey moved to Kanpur to study mechanical engineering.

Tutoring from a young age-

While in his eight class, Alakh Pandey started tutoring at his home.

Initially, he was not interested in tutoring but his poor financial condition forced him to do so.

Eventually, Alakh Pandey became interested in teaching and realised that he can teach well.

While studying tenth class, he used to ride to a student’s home on his bicycle to tutor him.

The parents of that student used to highly praise Alakh Pandey for his teaching skills.

Due to his poor financial condition, he found it difficult to get education but thankfully as his mother was very supportive to him, he was able to get educated.

Interested in dramatics-

Since his childhood, Alakh Pandey has been interested in dramatics and in his childhood, he wanted to become an actor.

While studying in school and college, he participated in many plays and won many awards.

Alakh Pandey also formed a dramatics club in his college and performed in street play (nukkad natak).

His favourite actors are Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Irrfan Khan, Sanjay Mishra, Kay Kay Menon, Naseeruddin Shah and Om Puri.

Joining a coaching institute-

While studying eleventh grade, Alakh Pandey joined a small coaching institute in Allahabad and started coaching a handful of students there.

In his 12^th grade, he wanted to grow up to become a maths teacher.

After completing his graduation, Alakh Pandey once attended an interview for a job but got rejected.

Gaining popularity with his coaching institute–

Alakh Pandey along with his partner started a coaching institute and for four years he taught many students in that coaching institute.

Initially, around 2015, he struggled financially but in 2017 his coaching institute started becoming popular and he started earning quite well with it and he was also getting recognised well.

Alakh Pandey started his YouTube channel by the name, Physics Wallah – Alakh Pandey on January 28, 2014 and from 2016, he started publishing videos on it.

During that time, there weren’t many educational creators on YouTube, so he started creating videos to help the students.

Starting with a Facebook page-

In 2015, before starting working on his YouTube channel, Alakh Pandey created a Facebook page by the name, Physics Walah.

He created educational memes, asked questions and ran competitions and also announced many prizes for the winners but his Facebook page didn’t become popular.

Becoming a full-time YouTuber-

In 2017, Alakh Pandey realised that he can’t reach many students by his traditional offline coaching institute.

Even though he was earning well with his coaching institute, he decided to quit working there and become a full-time YouTuber so as to reach a large number of students.

And at that time Alakh Pandey had only 10,000 subscribers on his YouTube channel.

So, in December 2017, he left his coaching institute to fully focus on his YouTube channel.

Alakh Pandey’s father wasn’t happy with his decision and he opined that he should have left the coaching institute only after growing his YouTube channel but his mother and sister were very supportive of his decision.

Thankfully, later he convinced his father and continued working on his YouTube channel.

Struggling financially-

At that time, Alakh Pandey had only 10,000 subscribers and was getting only a few views on his videos and due to this, he wasn’t able to earn sufficiently.

So, he also started preparing for the Civil Services Exam of the UPSC but his love for teaching couldn’t allow him to quit teaching.

As Alakh Pandey was getting many positive comments from the students demanding more of his videos and also, as he saw the potential of his YouTube channel, he continued working on his channel.

In January 2017, he received his first ever payment of ₹8,000 from his YouTube channel.

Becoming successful-

Now, Alakh Pandey is a successful educator and has more than six million subscribers for his Physics Wallah – Alakh Pandey YouTube channel.

On this YouTube channel he teaches physics for the students of 11^th and 12^th classes and also for students preparing for JEE Main and NEET entrance examinations.

Alakh Pandey has started four other YouTube channels, namely-

• JEE Wallah
• Physics Wallah Foundation – 9th & 10^th
• NCERT Wallah
• Competition Wallah

Now, he has a big team for managing all his YouTube channels.

Alakh Pandey also started a website by the name, Physics Wallah and has also an Android app, by the name, Physics Wallah.
