Sarah Greenwood is a car enthusiast and popular automotive YouTuber.

She has over 800K subscribers on her YouTube channel, Sarah -n- Tuned.

Introduction-

Sarah Greenwood was born on 19 April 1985 in the United States. She grew up in a small U.S. town near the Canada border.

She was raised by her grandmother.

Sarah has a half-sister, Celine, and three stepbrothers.

Being a petrolhead-

Sarah grew up in a family of car enthusiasts.

Both her parents, uncles and aunts, all were car enthusiasts and their passion for cars contracted her.

At just 4, Sarah, along with her parents, used to play a game of recognizing cars from a distance driving down the highway. Thanks to this, she started memorizing the types of cars.

Her photographic memory allowed her to remember a lot of cars.

Back then, she wanted to grow up to become an automotive designer.

Wax on wax off –

The young Sarah used to watch her father wash and wax his truck outdoors.

She got interested in detailing cars after she tried waxing a car at 4. At the time, she was amused by Mr. Miyagi’s “wax on wax off.”

Sarah’s uncle owned a body shop and she used to observe him painting and detailing cars.

Thanks to all these, she later started proficiently detailing her cars.

Driving at 12-

Sarah’s grandmother used to own and drive a manual 4×4 Ford Ranger Pickup Truck.

Sarah learnt to drive this truck at 12 under her grandmother’s supervision.

Sarah’s first car was a used, black 1998 Honda EF CRX Si.

She had this manual car in high school and as her parents lived on the other side of the country, she used to drive this cross country.

Later, she bought a used 1996 Nissan 240Sx Se.

After selling her Nissan, Sarah bought a brand new 2005 Subaru WRX STi. This was her first new car.

Joining USAF-

Many of Sarah’s family members worked in the military. At a young age, she used to travel and experience being on the military bases.

After passing high school, she couldn’t join a college because of her grades. So, she joined the United States Air Force right out of high school.

After scoring 94% in the mechanical area of the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) test, she started working as an Aerospace Maintenance Professional in the USAF.

She worked in this position from 2003 to 2015.

As an aerospace mechanic, Sarah’s job involved working on equipment that serviced aircraft.

Upon leaving the Air Force, she was a staff sergeant.

She lived in Rhine Valley, Aiea, etc. while working for the USAF and was stationed at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base.

Studying at AMU-

Sarah joined American Military University, in 2014, to study for a bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Materials and Supply Chain Management and graduated in 2017.

She chose to get a logistics degree as she didn’t want to touch a wrench again after exiting the Air Force.

After graduating, Sarah started working as an Operations Manager for a Target Distribution Center but she didn’t like that job.

At the time, she realized her passion and skill set of being a mechanic and followed her passion of cars and business. And started a business of hard detailing cars in 2017.

For inspiring others-

Sarah was a big fan of YouTubers like Matt Farah of TheSmokingTire, Tj Hunt and David of ThatDudeinBlue.

She realized that there weren’t many women in the male-dominated automotive YouTube space.

So, she decided to start her YouTube channel both to share her passion for cars and to inspire women into automotive YouTube.

Sarah started her channel, Sarah -n- Tuned, on 5 June 2016 and started working with her savings.

Even though she initially went flat broke by starting on YouTube, eventually, she turned it profitable thanks to the support of her Patrons and the success of her videos.

Sarah became a full-time YouTuber in 2017 and has been working daily for 10-12 hours, seven days a week.

Currently, she has 837K subscribers.

She has a second YouTube channel, Give It The Beans, but she stopped working on it.

Enjoying simple things-

Sarah is more drawn towards cheap, simple cars rather than super expensive, exotic cars.

She loves economical manual transmission cars.

Possible with Patreon-

As the YouTube ad revenue isn’t a reliable source of income and as Sarah doesn’t take sponsorships, she mainly relies on Patreon.

She also sells Robo Bubble branded detailing products.

Sarah doesn’t have a retirement plan with her channel.

Her long-term goal is to build a budget-friendly barndominium and film it.

Gear-

Sarah’s primary camera is a Canon EOS R6 and secondary camera is Canon EOS R.

For live streaming, she uses a GoPro Hero9. She sticks a GoPro Hero Max on the outside of cars to film them.

Sarah edits her videos with Final Cut Pro on her MacBook Pro.
