Jake Tran- Biography, Wiki

Jake Tran is a popular documentarian and YouTuber.

He has more than 1.6 million subscribers on his eponymous YouTube channel.

Introduction-

Jake Tran was born on 14 June 1998 into a poor family in Ho Chi Minh City (formerly known as Saigon), Vietnam.

At 2, he along with his parents migrated to the United States.

Jake grew up in Orange County, California and then in Arizona.

A born entrepreneur-

Jake has been an entrepreneur since his childhood.

As a child, he used to purchase energy drinks in the Asian markets with his parents’ money and resell them to his friends for a profit.

At 12, while studying in the middle school, Jake wanted to play with expensive toys but as he was poor, he used to purchase one toy and later, flip it on eBay for either cash with a little profit or flip it for another toy.

His school life-

Jake couldn’t perform well in his elementary school due to the language barrier but thankfully, he picked up in high school and developed an interest in maths and science.

He was aggressive in middle school and got into a few fights and so, he started learning Taekwondo for self-defence.

Within a few months, Jake grasped this martial art and became a Taekwondo instructor for all age groups of people and used to train after his high school.

He used to work as an instructor for six days a week and he also has a 2nd Dan Taekwondo Black Belt.

During that time, Jake was also learning guitar and was obsessed with it and used to also do freelance work related to graphic designing.

Entering YouTube-

As Jake had no cable TV at home, YouTube videos were the only single source of entertainment.

While in his high school, he used to watch tech YouTube channels like Linus Tech Tips and Marques Brownlee and was impressed by them upon learning about their YouTube earnings, brand deals, sponsorships, etc.

As during that time, Jake was skilled in Taekwondo, he started a YouTube channel related to Taekwondo by the name, Iron Wood Productions on 31 December 2015.

But his channel didn’t grow as expected and even after working for a couple of years, he wasn’t able to gain more than five thousand subscribers on it mainly because his videos weren’t good and also, not too many people were interested in Taekwondo.

Finally, Jake gave up on his YouTube channel.

Joining college-

After finishing his high school, Jake joined a community college to study Computer Science.

He studied well in college and his future plan was to become an academic and research artificial intelligence.

The Millionaire Fastlane-

Jake’s college friend recommended him The Millionaire Fastlane book and after listening to this book (he listened on Audible), he changed his plan of becoming an academic to becoming an entrepreneur.

Initially, he tried stock trading and then, planned to develop an app related to stock trading.

After taking a course on Udemy, Jake built a software as a service (SaaS) application by the name, Beautiful Stocks.

But this app couldn’t become profitable.

Becoming a web developer-

Even though Jake’s app wasn’t successful, it helped him to get a remote web developer job.

He was 18 at that time and was in his second year of college.

As soon as he got this job, Jake dropped out of the college.

He couldn’t continue in his job for long as his job wasn’t creative.

Working on YouTube-

After quitting his job, Jake started working on his eponymous YouTube channel.

Even though he started his YouTube channel on 30 January 2014, he started working on it only from 2018.

During that time, he was very inspired by Graham Stephan and he inspired him to restart his career on YouTube.

Initially, Jake used to make videos on personal development and then, started publishing videos very similar to that of Graham Stephan.

But he wasn’t getting decent views on his videos.

Becoming successful with Blue Ocean Strategy-

During that time, Jake read the Blue Ocean Strategy book and thanks to this book, he learnt that he could attain success on YouTube by creating unique content.

So, he started creating unique videos and his first video to go viral is titled ‘Why Graham Stephan is killing the YouTube Algorithm’ published on 5 September 2019.

Graham Stephan not only appreciated Jake’s video but also shared this with his followers on Instagram.

And from then on, he started getting good views on almost all his videos and this made him a successful YouTuber.

Jake has a couple of other YouTube channels namely, Intellectual Dropouts and Evil Food Supply.

A successful YouTuber-

As of March 2023, Jake has 1.67M subscribers on his eponymous YouTube channel.

And has 72.1K followers on Instagram and 26K followers on his Facebook page.

He earns from a variety of sources like advertisements, Membership and ‘Super Thanks’ on his YouTube channel, receiving sponsorships, affiliate marketing and selling his ‘Financial Slavery Masterclass’ and through his ‘Laptop Lifestyle Academy’.

Jake also has a website.

Apart from being a YouTuber, Jake is also a capitalist.

He lives in Phoenix, Arizona.
