He has more than 800 thousand subscribers on his YouTube channel by the name J.J. McCullough.
John is also a writer, journalist and cartoonist.
Introduction-
John McCullough (J.J. McCullough) was born on 17 July 1984 in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.
His mother, Janna Mccullough hails from ‘s-Heer Arendskerke, Netherlands.
His sister, Francine Mccullough works at Aerotek Recruiting and Staffing.
John studied for a B.A. in political science and history.
Pro-American-
John grew up in a very Pro-American family.
He and his family visited the United States many times for vacations and both his parents wanted to emigrate to the United States.
After growing up, John desired to live in the United States and California and Midwestern United States are his favourite places in the USA.
Getting interested in politics-
In 2001, while in his senior year of high school, John started getting interested in political cartoons.
And in the same year, 9/11 happened due to which he got exposed to a lot of political news and this too deepened his interest in politics.
In his teenage years, John devoted most of his free time learning about politics.
Living in Japan & Europe-
John worked as an English teacher in Japan for a year.
But during his time there, he neither was passionate for his job nor the country and so, he left Japan after a year.
John also lived in the Netherlands and a few western European countries.
Blogger & cartoonist-
John started out as a blogger and used to blog political hot takes.
During that time, he used to also draw cartoons and wanted to grow up to become an editorial cartoonist.
John worked as a freelance cartoonist and drew cartoons for a variety of Vancouver publications, and he also worked as a staff cartoonist at a college student newspaper.
He has always been a fan of The Simpsons and the Nickelodeon TV shows like Rugrats, Doug, etc. and video games like Mario, The Legend of Zelda, Sonic and Japanese games and all of these influenced him as a cartoonist.
One of his cartoons also got published in a physical book.
Eventually, his blog became successful and thanks to this, John got hired by the Huffington Post Canada and here, his job involved writing political hot takes.
Working in Television-
Thanks to his success at HuffPost Canada, in 2011, John got an opportunity to work in television.
So, he started working at CTV in Canada as a TV pundit and his job involved doing political panels.
At that time, John wanted to make a career as an opinion journalist.
Later, he worked in many different TV networks and in radio.
Then, John secured a semi-permanent job at Sun News and here, his job involved doing political commentary.
Unfortunately, as the Sun News Network got closed down on 13 February 2015, he lost his job.
Becoming a YouTuber-
Even though John lost his job in television, his love for presentation didn’t die and so, he decided to become a YouTuber.
So, he purchased a camcorder and a tripod from a Best Buy and produced his first video titled- J.J. and Angela’s reaction to Five Nights at Freddy’s on 12 April 2015.
John produced a few random videos as an experimentation to find his niche and to learn editing.
Finally, he found his niche and started making videos on countries, cultures and Canada.
Vlogbrothers, WheezyWaiter and Matthew Santoro YouTube channels inspired John to become a YouTuber.
Even though he started his YouTube channel by the name J.J. McCullough in 11 February 2006, initially, he used his channel only for hosting videos for his blog, for his Twitter and television followers.
And only after losing his job in 2015, John started seriously focusing on his YouTube channel.
A successful YouTuber-
Now, John is a successful full-time YouTuber.
As of August 2022, he has 823K subscribers on his J.J. McCullough YouTube channel.
John’s first video to get over a million views is titled- Weirdest National Anthems and was published on 20 May 2017.
He earns through a variety of sources through his YouTube channel like advertisements on his videos, receiving sponsorships and he also accepts donations through Patreon.
On 2 January 2016, John started his second YouTube channel by the name Gay by Gay and as of August 2022, he isn’t active on this channel.
No to Wikipedia, yes to library-
In a few of his YouTube videos, John expressed his dislike for Wikipedia and stated that he never reads it nor he uses it for the research process of his YouTube videos.
He also avoids reading regurgitated blog posts and instead, he carries out his research at the library.
John created a reference website about Canada by the name The Canada Guide and he has been working on this website since his high school.
He developed The Canada Guide as an alternative to Wikipedia on Canada.

John works as a global opinions contributing columnist at The Washington Post.
This is his part-time job and here, he writes columns on a weekly basis.
John also contributed to National Post, CBC, CNN, etc.

John published a book titled- Canadamon.
