Gaurav Chaudhary (Technical Guruji)

Gaurav Chaudhary is the most famous tech YouTuber of India.

His YouTube channel, Technical Guruji is the most subscribed tech YouTube channel of India with 22 million subscribers.

Introduction-

Gaurav Chaudhary was born on 7 May 1991 in Ajmer, Rajasthan, India into a Jatt family.

His ancestors hailed from Jhunjhunu district of Rajasthan.

Gaurav Chaudhary grew up in Ajmer.

Early love with technology-

Since his childhood, Gaurav Chaudhary has been very inclined towards technology.

In his first grade, he got his hands on the computers for the first time to learn Logo and BASIC programming languages.

In school, Gaurav Chaudhary learnt these languages to print shapes like triangle, rectangle, heptagon, etc. on the screen.

He was fascinated by the computers and since then, he has been in love with computers and other gadgets.

While in third standard, Gaurav Chaudhary got a computer at home and it had 32 MB RAM and 4.5 GB hard drive.

A topper-

Gaurav Chaudhary did his schooling in English medium in Ajmer and until his tenth standard, he always topped his school.

He studied in ICSE board until his tenth class and in 2006, he secured a 83.6 percent in his tenth grade.

A little about his family-

Gaurav Chaudhary’s father initially worked at the Maharshi Dayanand Saraswati University Ajmer and in 2006, he moved to the Bikaner University to work as the controller of examinations.

Likewise, in 2006, his family moved from Ajmer to Bikaner.

Gaurav Chaudhary has three siblings, an elder brother and two elder sisters.

In 2006, his elder brother, Pradeep Singh Chaudhary moved from Ajmer to Dubai for a job and later, he started his own business.

Whereas his sisters are working as an inspector and a teacher respectively.

Encountering YouTube-

From 2007, Gaurav Chaudhary started watching YouTube thanks to the BSNL broadband installed at his home.

During that time data was expensive but as he didn’t know the cost of data, he consumed too much internet data by watching YouTube videos for long hours.

And thanks to this, Gaurav Chaudhary received an internet bill of ₹18,000 for the first two months.

By this time, he was addicted to YouTube and wanted to learn from it as much as possible.

His intermediate education-

Gaurav Chaudhary studied intermediate in Kendriya Vidyalaya, Bikaner.

Here, he chose science and maths and studied in CBSE board.

He scored 65% in his 12^th standard.

A difficult phase-

When Gaurav Chaudhary was 15, his father got injured in a car accident and went into a coma.

This made things very hard for him and he was burdened with the responsibility of looking after his home.

Unfortunately, Gaurav Chaudhary lost his father in 2009.

Engineering-

As Gaurav Chaudhary was interested in hardware, he chose to study Electronics and Communications Engineering (ECE) in Bikaner Technical University (BTU), Bikaner, Rajasthan.

Here he also learnt computer science especially C++ language but he couldn’t develop an interest towards software.

Inspired by 3 Idiots-

In 2009, during his third semester, Gaurav Chaudhary saw the 3 Idiots film.

He got very fascinated by the quadcopter shown in this movie and he along with his friends wanted to make one.

So, Gaurav Chaudhary and his four friends namely, Abhijeet, Amit, Nikhil, and Kamlesh went to Lajpat Rai Market, Chandni Chowk, New Delhi to purchase the components required for making the quadcopter.

But they couldn’t succeed in making the drone as the components weren’t of good quality.

Later, Gaurav Chaudhary studied macro controllers and became confident that he could successfully make a drone this time.

As expected, he successfully made a quadcopter equipped with a camera for the final project of his b.tech.

Gaurav Chaudhary was a topper in BTech.

Wanting to start a YouTube channel-

After graduation Gaurav Chaudhary started watching many YouTube videos of several Indian creators and he too wanted to start a YouTube channel.

But later as he got very busy with his masters, he didn’t have the time for starting a YouTube channel.

Moving to Dubai-

In 2012, after graduation, Gaurav Chaudhary and his mother moved to Dubai.

Here, he did Master of Engineering (M.E.) in Microelectronics from Bits Pilani Dubai and was a gold medalist.

In his masters, Gaurav Chaudhary worked on Nanoelectromechanical systems (NEMS) and was a nanoscience researcher and studied microelectronics, IC fabrication, chip designing, etc.

He also studied biotechnology.

No to PhD and MBA-

After completing his masters in 2015, Gaurav Chaudhary had two options, either to do PhD or MBA.

Initially, he thought of enrolling for a PhD because he was passionate about research.

Gaurav Chaudhary also got PhD offers from a Korean university and a Canadian university.

But as PhD requires commitment for five long years, he dropped his plans for PhD.

After giving up on PhD, Gaurav Chaudhary wanted to do MBA from London Business School.

So, he prepared for GMAT for a couple of months.

But then, Gaurav Chaudhary realised that doing MBA would consume too much time as even after MBA all he had to do was to be involved in his family’s business, so he thought of entering the business right away.

So, he abandoned his plans for MBA and entered his family’s business.

Becoming an entrepreneur-

Gaurav Chaudhary’s brother was already an entrepreneur and dealt with groceries, stationery, etc.

But as this business wasn’t technical, Gaurav Chaudhary wasn’t interested in it.

So, he wanted to start a new business related to electronics.

Initially, Gaurav Chaudhary took a certification from the Dubai police regarding security systems and then, started a business relating to that.

Now, he does business related to security systems like CCTV cameras, access control systems, biometrics, etc.

Many businesses-

Currently, Gaurav Chaudhary and his family lives in Dubai and runs many businesses related to-

• Security systems
• Groceries and stationery.
• Financial consultancy.

Also, they have a premium brokerage company, event management company and an online radio station.

Starting Technical Guruji-

In 2015, while running his business, Gaurav Chaudhary had some free time and so, he wanted to develop a hobby to utilise it.

During that time, he came across some Hindi videos of Praval Sharma of Sharmaji Technical YouTube channel and got inspired to create videos in Hindi.

So, on October 19, 2015 Gaurav Chaudhary created a YouTube channel by the name, Technical Guruji and a day later, on October 20, 2015 he posted a video titled- [Hindi] Technical Guruji Introduction | Know more about me.

As he was very passionate about technology and also studied it extensively, he was able to easily shoot technology videos for his YouTube channel.

Choosing Hindi over English-

At that time, most of the tech videos were in English and very few were in Hindi.

Gaurav Chaudhary realised that as most of the Indians understood Hindi better than English, they were struggling to keep up with technology.

So, he was determined to create Hindi tech videos to reach the majority of Indians.

Initially, some people criticised him for choosing Hindi over English for the technology niche but he persisted.

Reasons for success-

• Gaurav Chaudhary uses very simple language in his videos and thanks to this, many people are able to follow his videos and connect to him.
• For many years, he has been consistently uploading two videos per day and this consistency is the major contributor to his success.
• Dedication. Gaurav Chaudhary is very dedicated towards his work. Once while flying on an airplane, he shot and edited a video on the plane itself and uploaded it onto YouTube by using the WiFi in the airplane. This showcases his dedication.

Even though he has grown busier over the years, this couldn’t stop him from being consistent on YouTube.

This has been only possible because Gaurav Chaudhary is very passionate about technology and YouTube.

He daily posts two videos which consist of a tech video and a tech news video.

Also, Gaurav Chaudhary is not a full-time YouTuber and doesn’t spend more than a couple of hours creating videos.

His excellent time management skill of editing videos while traveling to office also helps him save time.

An unassisted success story-

You will be surprised to know that Gaurav Chaudhary doesn’t have a team to help him.

He manages everything by himself and not having a team couldn’t stop him from becoming India’s most successful tech YouTuber.

Gaurav Chaudhary himself records his videos, edits them and also manages to handle his social media channels.

In November 2017, he spoke in a TEDx talk in Noida, India.
