Education-

Radhi wanted to grow up to become a pediatric doctor but couldn’t secure the grades for it.

Her mother introduced her to the nutrition degree, and she decided to study it.

So, at 18, Radhi joined the University of Nottingham, England to study nutrition.

She fell in love with nutrition and later, she also did a dietetics degree as she wanted to work in a clinical setting.

Then, after moving to California, Radhi started studying for an Ayurveda degree at California College of Ayurveda, Nevada City, California; in 2020, she received her Ayurvedic Health Counsellor One Degree.

Studying Ayurveda helped her understand the medicinal properties of food.

Radhi also took yoga teacher training but didn’t finish it, as she didn’t take the last exam.

Career-

After completing her dietetics degree, she started working as a dietitian at Watford General Hospital in Watford, England.

Radhi worked here until 2016 and in 2016, she along with her husband moved to New York City, United States.

Here, she became interested in Ayurveda after meeting Divya Alter, an author, nutritional consultant, and chef in the Shaka Vansiya Ayurveda tradition.

Radhi worked as Divya’s assistant until 2018, and then she moved to California and started studying for an Ayurveda degree.

Then, she became a content creator, and entrepreneur, as she along with her husband launched Sama Tea; and JOYO (later rebranded to Juni), an adaptogenic sparkling tea brand.

Becoming a content creator-

Radhi started by sharing food content on Instagram; at the time, she used to not share her personality.

Later, as her husband, Jay Shetty, started getting popular online, people also started following her on Instagram.

Radhi was happy to gain followers and wanted to give a reason for her followers to connect with her.

So, in addition to sharing food content, she also started sharing her personality, and various aspects of her life.

People started resonating with Radhi and thanks to this, she amassed a massive following on social media platforms.

She started publishing videos on her eponymous YouTube channel from 23 October 2020.

Becoming a vegan-

Even though she was born into a family of vegans, her mother and grandmother both are vegans, she used to not always follow vegetarianism.

Once Deepa read the book ‘Eating Animals’ and announced that she was becoming a vegan and as Radhi used to follow her sister, she too decided to turn into a vegan.

But Deepa encouraged her to first read the book and after reading the book, she became sensitive to the plight of the animals in the dairy and meat industries and on farms and decided not to inflict suffering on animals for her satisfaction.

So, Radhi turned vegan in a phased manner and adopted a plant-based diet.

She has been a vegan since 2013.

Also, Radhi has been a teetotaller.

Cookbook-

She published her cookbook, ‘JoyFull’, on 27 February 2024.

Radhi finished writing her book by the 2023 Thanksgiving and it was saved on Google Docs but her whole book got deleted; luckily, she was able to recover her book by contacting Google.

Meeting Jay Shetty; getting married-

Once, Jay was asked to show how to do a particular service at the temple to Radhi’s mother; at the time, he was undergoing training to become a monk.

As a part of the voluntary service, he took her mother around.

Later, she wanted Radhi to get more involved in spirituality and so, she met Jay and wanted Radhi to get introduced to the youth community and passed on Radhi’s number to him, but he passed it on to his sister, Amy.

Radhi and Amy became friends; and Radhi met Jay briefly before he became a monk.

At the time, she was in her twenties and out of the university and started listening to his speeches on philosophy, meditation at universities and youth programs and was captivated by his oratory skills and wisdom.

She also saw Jay transforming into a monk by seeing him in robes and turning bald.

Later, when he quit being a monk, Amy communicated to him that Radhi likes him.
